This position is internally known as "Transformation Facilitator".

The mission of the Academic Secretary is to reinvent the interaction of the IESE departments, the students and the alumni with their academic records. The driving force behind the modernization and automatization of IESE’s administrative processes, this unit will push for the digitalization of the processes underpinning services ranging from admissions to grading.

To fulfill its mission, the department needs individuals with a relentless appetite for change that are ready to work in an entrepreneurial unit that will bring about tremendous change across the whole organization.

What you will be doing:

Deliver an increasingly excellent and efficient service to the students, alumni and IESE divisions on academic-file related matters.

What we expect from you:

• Understand the clients’ needs and become their trusted partner for administrative matters.
• Become an expert in all the administrative process, being able to make recommendations for radical improvements that can either make them more customer centric or efficient.
• Perform administrative work related to the students’ academic file (enrolment, certificates/diplomas issuance,…).
• Manage a wide array of projects including topics such as processes automation/digitalization, KPI design and tracking, developing of training materials, calendar etc…
• Mapping of processes in order to facilitate the rotation of responsibilities without losing know-how
• Review of quality levels and identify deviations in time and form.
• Communication to the Director of the Academic Secretariat of the status of activities and deviations, proposing corrective measures.
• Understand the needs of the programs and become your trusted partner for administrative matters.

Multiple Projects:

· Various projects that explore the influence of artificial intelligence and other digital technologies on the design of new business models

· Project 1: Research case study on how artificial intelligence (AI) allows an Indian healthcare venture to scale rapidly to reach 100 million patients

· Project 2: Research study on the success factors of large, established companies for driving business model innovation projects inside their firms

· Project 3: Teaching case study on one of the fastest growing entrepreneurial companies in Africa, AFEX, an agritech business that helps small farmers with warehousing, trading and financing

· Project 4: Development of innovative GPT apps and exercises as teaching material for IESE class sessions on business model innovation

Business model innovation presents new and exciting business opportunities for value creation that are anchored in the (re)design of firms’ business models to reinvent and reimagine themselves. The exponential increases in computing power, almost ubiquitous connectivity, and algorithmic advances in artificial intelligence have vastly expanded both the variety of business models and their influence on firm performance. Research activities will center on studying this business model revolution—that is, from products to platforms, from firms to ecosystems, and from individuals to algorithms. Work will include assisting with business model innovation projects focused on development of cases (data collection, analysis) as well as literature review and other research activities related to entrepreneurship, strategy, and organization theory. Additional areas of research include linguistic approaches examining the role of language and time, including analysis of entrepreneurial framing and issues related to sustainability and process-based historical case analysis.

Job description:

• We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our team. As a Research Assistant, you will support our team in conducting applied research projects in corporate innovation, technology transfer, and scale-ups as well as providing supporting in public-funded projects. Some examples of tasks that may involve:
  • Assist in gathering relevant research papers, articles, and publications related to ongoing projects, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the field.
  • Support in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data using various tools and techniques, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations, effectively communicating research outcomes and insights to internal stakeholders and collaborators.
  • Gather data from databases – e.g. about startups.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to contribute to cross-functional research projects and ensure seamless coordination.
  • Continuously stay ahead of the latest advancements in relevant technologies and contribute insights to the team.
  • Other tasks related to the development of the Center and the school.

Assembly and cleaning of data set.

The work will involve understanding the assembly of proprietary data set. These data contains information on shipping records through US customs. The original data are in txt format and assembled in various files. The work will involve transforming data into stata format, merge various data sets with relevant information, and have it ready for statistical analysis.

• Research Assistant (RA) will work independently and in collaboration with IESE Professors in research projects in the areas of economics / finance / marketing. RA will have 1 weekly meetings and energetic interactions with IESE Professors. The RA is not expected to be expert in all areas, rather will receive regular guidance and training from the Professor.
• Broadly, the candidate should be interested in working in: analyzing “big data”, online and social platforms, working with leading retailers in Europe, machine learning packages, econometric tools, GEO location data, consumer behavior experiments.
• The candidate should enjoy writing in English. Many projects are more intensive in writing (and less intensive in computer programming).
• The research is expected to be published in leading academic Journals, providing the RA with first-hand experience working from the start to the end with academic projects.
