This research project is centered on the topic of Open Innovation, with a particular focus on Corporate Venturing Squads—a novel approach to innovation in which corporations collaborate with one another to more effectively engage and innovate with start-ups. This emerging model is exemplified by initiatives such as the 100+ Accelerator, Construction Start-up Competition, and MobilityXLab, which are driven by industry leaders including AB InBev, Coca-Cola, Cemex Ventures, Colgate-Palmolive, Ericsson, and the Volvo Group.
Our research aims to investigate the front-end of innovation within these multi-partner strategic alliances, applying a learning-oriented lens to better understand how this model differs from more traditional innovation mechanisms. We intend to define and conceptualize this emerging approach, grounding it through a comprehensive literature review and exploring it further through qualitative research.
The ultimate goal is to develop findings that are not only suitable for publication in a reputable academic journal but also contribute meaningfully to the broader research agenda on Corporate Venturing Squads, an initiative already underway at the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center.
